Things you need to know:

Google Simplifies Advertising Solutions

Every 18 months or so, Google makes a pretty big announcement of change. Last month, we were finally made aware of what that entails – simplified advertising solutions. Considering AdWords was launched 18 years ago, it’s a welcomed update.

One of the most significant, is the refocus for small businesses with the release of four new products. These are targeting local search, smart shopping and hotel/travel campaigns. If you need any help getting your Google ads working for local, we’re ready to roll for you.

Social Media:

Facebook’s Layout Is Changing

On August 25, your Facebook profile page on desktop will automatically take on a new look (and for some brands, it’s earlier than this). If you were one of the brave, you may have taken this leap of faith already. The new look template being applied is designed to provide valuable information to your audience as easily as possible. Facebook has given 14 days notice of these changes occurring. Don’t panic, you can always revert back to your original template if you want to, but the new features might just add a dash of difference to your business. The goddess of Facebook marketing, Mari Smith, has 5 quick tips for page admins to make sure they’re on top of impact of these changes.

On the Blog:

Nailing Instagram Captions

Coming up with really good Instagram captions can be hard. Really hard. We all know that Instagram is a visually-dominant platform, but you can’t let your captions become an afterthought. This month’s blog from our social media manager, Nicole, gives you all the ins and outs of creating Instagram captions that demand attention and garner results. We’re talking having a brand personality, adding value, using emojis, tagging and hashtags that give you reach. If you’re going to be on Insta, be Insta-worthy.

Banter Boast:

Is It Time You Banked Local?

BDCU Alliance Bank are a social enterprise investing their profits into projects that enhance people’s lives and enrich our local communities. They’re owned by their members, which means they are truly a locally-owned business.

They’re working hard to support positive change in our communities through programs such as the My Community Program and Apprentice Support Program. BDCU Alliance Bank supports our local businesses, including Banter Group, and their support has seen us grow our team and produce a plethora of marketing materials.

You can check out our creative work for The Collective: hosting hot desks, meeting rooms and office space. Our other work includes print and digital campaign concepting and design, internal documentation, printed marketing flyers and posters, and digital advertising assets.

Recent chats and upcoming stuff

Digital Live 18: For the second year running, I’m honoured to be the social media digital mentor for Digital Live 18, a 6 month training program for real estate thought leaders wanting a world class digital profile. My keynote presentation was delivered to a sell-out crowd in Sydney last week, and this weekend I take on the Brisbane event. It’s exciting to see real estate agents take charge of their personal brand online and watch their profiles grow throughout their 6 month mentorship.

We’ve grown again!  Watching our amazing team grow is extremely rewarding, and this month we have welcomed two new locals to our family. Sasha Newinsky is a Bowral local, bringing his branding and graphic design talents to join Fran & Kate to beef up our creative team; and Talia Stringer is a Moss Vale local coming on board in Account Management with her digital marketing skillset. That’s 8 of us in our mega team and we’re tickled pink!

Something cool:

A Plankton Pool

That’s not a typo. The natural ‘plankton’ pool is a real thing, where there’s no chlorine, no salt and no chemicals. The latest pool in Edmonton, Canada uses filtration plant and sand ponds that are constantly cleaning the water of bacteria and viruses, and provide habitat for the zooplankton which eat the bacteria. Now with everything natural, there’s a bunch of rules, which makes me wonder if this could fly in Australia, like you can’t use sunscreens that contain phosphorus, you can’t wear cotton… and the deal breaker for me… if it gets over 29 degrees, the pool has to close. Fascinating.

Until next time 😊
