What a change in a month. Pandemic alright.

With all conferences and presentations now cancelled for me, I found myself with spare time for about 3 mins, before crisis comms planning kicked it all up a gear.

The team are furiously working through our client comms, with urgency across social media. Some clients are more impacted than others, however, the urgency is the same. 😞

We are here for you to help you navigate what to say and when to say it.

I established Banter with full remote working capabilities from the outset. Our face to face meetings are cancelled and we are organising Zoom meetings to replace these.

We shall all recover. Be calm. Be sensible. Make smart decisions. Take care of yourselves.

Marketing In A Crisis: We’ve Been Here Before

The more I hear businesses telling me they are halting marketing, the more I die a little inside.

Pandemic indeed. Health risk. Unprecedented. Uncharted waters. All the buzz words – but nowhere in the media are you hearing that you should stop promoting your business. Please don’t. 20 years of experience tells me it’s not a happy ending to abandon the game of being visible to people. Better still, people are spending more and more time online because they are in self-isolation.

My 4 minute video will hopefully give you enough spirit to continue in the dark. Because we’re all in the dark. Our generations haven’t lived through this type of pandemic before, and the rules are changing daily. Please let me help you learn from my own experiences. I haven’t done a pandemic before, but I have done crisis marketing. #marketingbucketlist

What Happens When You Stop Using Facebook?

Have you ever wondered what would happen if you stopped using social media? I think about it constantly, perhaps every 2 hours or so. I love social, but I equally can see all of its downsides, particularly during the impressionable and informative 10 – 21 year age bracket.

Social is wonderfully informative and providing connections of immediacy and value. On the other hand, it creates anxiety, unnecessary competition, it perpetuates the classes of society, and the list continues.

Where has our simple life gone? IMO, the pandemic will simplify our lives and our desires. We’ll become more humble and content in what we have, rather than see the green-eyed monster 🧿 evolve.

In this experimental research, top economists recruited 2,743 users, with Facebook Ads, who were willing to leave Facebook for one month in exchange for a cash reward.

The results are quite interesting, and yet not too surprising. Detoxing is not an easy task when you’re feeling isolated from the ‘norm’. Perhaps it just doesn’t have to be the norm. Gen X, it’s time to rebel again!

Marketing During COVID-19: 4 Reasons Why It Matters

Businesses are hurting; there is wide-spread speculation that a recession is imminent. On the back of the horrific bushfire season, Australian business owners are now being pummelled by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Naturally business owners are looking at ways to cut πŸ’², but history tells us that continuing a level of marketing activity during tough economic times helps protect the long-term future of businesses.

Business plans and marketing strategies must be reviewed and adapted to the current climate, but to cease marketing activity altogether is a real risk.

On the blog this month, we take a look at 4 key reasons to keep your marketing arsenal strong. Out-contribute your competitors by staying present in their digital worlds. Be there to entertain them and inspire them. Give them something other than the news they get elsewhere.

If you’re finding yourself lost during this time and πŸ” for help to make better marketing decisions for your business, we are here for you. Don’t panic. Help is a ☎️ call away, a Zoom conference away or an email away.

Bowral Street Medical Practice

Bowral Street Medical Practice was established in the early 1980s and now boasts 14 doctors, including registrars πŸ‘©β€βš•οΈ and a medical student, making BSMP one of the largest medical practices in the Southern Highlands.

Iconic businesses who look to their future excite us. They want to progress, to modernise and move with the times. And what a time for us to be moving in! Our job was to transform the old website into an easy to navigate experience catering for the range of customer generations coming through the door.

We needed to look at a multi-device approach, with integrated capabilities to book appointments online πŸ“…, and also communicate the seasonal πŸ‚ and promotional needs of the practice. All of this needed to be easily managed by the internal team. As we know, health and health products can change rapidly. #covid19.

Following the website rebuild, we also established a Facebook presence for the team to self-manage, together with some 1:1 training to ensure the latest and greatest of Facebook algorithms and content needs were shared.

Congratulations BSMP on having the resilience to accept change and keep evolving as a modern practice.

2020 Events Cancelled

Needless to say, every one of my touring roadshows is cancelled or postponed. As I watch the influx of rescheduling πŸ“§ hit my inbox, I am very mindful of the events industry and what they are facing. The knock-on effect is enormous – event managers, speakers, caterers, venues, event staff, transport, accommodation; the immediate victims let alone the peripherals of staging, design, speaker equipment etc.

New Order was lucky to get their concert done; I’ve had Pop Will Eat Itself and Lenny Kravitz concerts πŸŽͺ cancel. I know, we all have.

So until there’s something that can return to ‘normal’ for social engagement, it seems my “What’s Happening” section may need a revamp.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL BUSINESSES.
Stage 1 businesses of bars 🍺, cafes πŸ”, restaurants πŸ•and clubs πŸ•ΊπŸ½will all be relying on take-away menus to keep their businesses in operation. If you ever thought this couldn’t happen to us, this is Stage 1 and it’s happening today. If we don’t, in 3 months, there’ll be no-where to go.

Subpar Parks

Subpar Parks is a snarky love letter to the National Parks System in the US.

If you can believe it, there are 1 ⭐ reviews for every single one of the 62 national parks.

So this wonderful designer decided they would illustrate each park along with a hand-lettered 1-star review as a way to put a positive, fun spin 🀣 on such a negative mindset.

Until next time, enjoy!
